About
Nomads Soccer Club was founded in San Diego in 1976 by Joe Hollow and is one of California's historically significant youth development organizations. Hollow initially assembled talented players from the La Jolla area before expanding into multiple age groups. A pivotal moment came in 1981 when English coach Derek Armstrong became Director of Coaching and began building an English-style club system. The Nomads later established a professional team that competed in the Western Soccer Alliance and won championships in 1987 and 1989. The youth organization also developed a substantial national reputation, winning five US Youth Soccer National Championships under Armstrong.
