Giorgos Giakoumakis (28) is on Atlanta United’s radar for the striker position that Josef Martinez left vacant. The Atlanta-based club is looking to sign Giakoumakis as a designated player. The shoes will be hard to fill with Martinez’s departure but Giakoumakis seems to be Atlanta’s top option with the Greek center-forward having Champions League experience and a taller frame (6′ 1″) than Martinez (5′ 8″).
On the other hand, Atlanta is not the only club that seems to be interested in the Greek’s services. Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds could potentially be leading the race. However, due to Atlanta seeking a designated player for their roster, the package for Giakoumakis could seem more enticing in the MLS.
Giakoumakis is currently valued at around $5m and has a contract expiration date of 2026 with Celtic FC.
