According to Sky Germany, Crystal Palace is close to completing the transfer of Chris Richards from Bayern Munich. The United States Men’s National Team defender’s name has been mentioned in connection with a transfer to Hoffenheim.
According to the source, Richards has reached an agreement with Patrick Vieira’s team over personal terms, but Bayern Munich and Crystal Palace have not yet reached an agreement regarding a deal.
Richards was up in Birmingham, Alabama, and in 2017 he joined FC Dallas Academy, having previously played for Texans SC Houston. He had previously been unsuccessful in attracting the notice of FC Dallas, but after playing against them, he drew the interest of the Academy coach Eric Quill. His professional career officially began on April 12, 2018, when he signed a deal with FC Dallas.
As part of an agreement between FC Dallas and FC Bayern Munich, Richards spent the month of May 2018 on trial with the latter club. His FC Dallas teammate Thomas Roberts also participated in the trial. Because of how well he played during the trial, the German club extended him an offer in July to spend the next season on loan from them.
Richards made his debut with the senior squad of Bayern Munich on July 21, 2018, in the 2018 International Champions Cup. He came on as a substitute for Sandro Wagner in the 62nd minute of the club’s 3–1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain F.C.
On February 1, 2021, Richards went out on loan to play for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga for the rest of the current campaign. At the end of his loan, Richards returned to Bayern Munich. Currently, with the World Cup just around the corner, Richards is in need of minutes in order to secure his spot on the USMNT roster.
