Club Deportivo Toluca are looking to bring Luuk de Jong to their club in Mexico as his contract is set to expire with Sevilla this June. The Dutch international striker just came off a season-long loan with FC Barcelona, where he played 21 games and scored 6 goals.
Toluca was first interested in Edison Cavani as their striker, but Cavani is looking to stay in Europe as his contract with Manchester United is coming to an end.
Toluca ended their 2022 Clausura season in 15th place, failing to qualify for the playoffs. The club has been struggling for the past several years not having won a title in over a decade. Toluca’s last leading goal scorer was Jose Saturnino Cardozo. Cardozo played in Toluca from 1995 to 2005 and accumulated 332 caps with an impressive 249 goals.
Will Luuk de Jong be the missing piece Toluca is looking for?

De Jong played for DZC ’68, De Graafschap, Twente, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Newcastle United, before joining PSV in 2014. He played over 200 games for the club, scoring over 100 goals, and helped them win the Eredivisie three times in his five-season stay. In 2019, he joined Sevilla, before going out on loan to Barcelona in 2021.
