On the 28th of June 2022, Simons signed a five-year contract to play with PSV, which competes in the Eredivisie. Although it was originally anticipated that he would extend his contract with PSG and join PSV on loan, the circumstances altered when PSV decided that they did not want a loan arrangement for the 19-year-old forward. On the other hand, PSG was able to negotiate a buy-back clause into Simons’s deal, which will take effect in 2023.
The buy-back clause included a deal in 2023 that would allow PSG to buy back Xavi Simons from PSV for €12m. Even though Xavi’s current market value is around €18m as of now, PSV coach Van Nistelrooy confirms the talks that he is looking for options to have Xavi Simmons stay at PSV.
“We are in talks to extend Xavi Simons contract, we see him as a key player in building the PSV for the future”, says Van Nistelrooy.
Xavi has been in great form this season under Van Nistelrooy, playing 20 games and scoring 9 goals followed with 5 assists in 1,640 minutes.
