KF Laçi History
The club, which was first known as Industriali Lac when it was established in 1960, spent the most of its formative years playing in the Albanian Second Division, the country’s third-highest level of competition. They competed all the way to the title game of the Second Division in 1974–1975, but ultimately fell short against Vettima Himar. As a result, they were not promoted to the First Division. When the club began competing in the Kategoria Superiore for the first time in 1991, they changed their name to KS Laci. In 1997, they changed it once more to KF Laci, which would be their final name change. The club’s first victory came in 2008–2009 when they took first place in the Albanian First Division.
The only other Laci player to have ever won the Kategoria Superiore Golden Boot was Altin Cuko, and he did so while he was still actively playing for the club.
This was accomplished during the 1995–1996 season for KF Laci, in which they ended in the 12th position out of 18. Cuko had already scored 5 goals for Tomori Berat before moving to KF Laci in January 1996, where he netted another 16 times to give him the Golden boot with a total of 21 goals throughout the entire season with both Tomori and Laci. Cuko won the Golden boot with a total of 21 goals throughout the entire season with both Tomori and Laci.
The club moved up to the highest level of competition, known as the Kategoria Superiore, for the first time in the 2004–2005 season. After only one year in the Second Division, they were demoted back to the First Division after setting many records along the way. In 2009, they competed again in the Kategoria Superiore and promoted several new players to their roster, including Erjon Vucaj, Arlind Nora, Julian Brahja, Emiliano ela, Emiliano Veliaj, and Ervin Llani. They suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the opening match of the season at the hands of Sknderbeu Korc by a score of 4–3, and they won just one of their first seven games, which came against Apolonia Fier. After spending the first part of the season in the relegation zone, the club was able to hit form and finish in fourth place, finishing ahead of more established clubs like Flamurtari Vlor and Vllaznia Shkodr. This result also meant that the club qualified for Europe for the very first time in its history.
In preparation for the next 2010–11 season, the club went out and acquired some new players in hopes to improve upon their previous season’s performance, in which they finished in fourth place, and to increase their chances of advancing to the next round of the UEFA Europa League. They played their first ever European game on July 1, 2010, at the Niko Dovana Stadium due to the fact that the Laci Stadium did not meet the criteria set forth by UEFA to host European games. They were drawn against the Belarusian side Dnepr Mogilev in the first qualifying round of the 2010–11 Europa League, and they faced off against them in the first qualifying round. Bledar Marashi scored the club’s first ever goal in a European competition just before the half time break, but his goal was cancelled out in additional time as the game concluded in a 1–1 draw. Bledar Marashi’s strike opened the scoring just before the half time break. However, the second leg was a bust, as the team was eliminated from the competition as a result of a 7–1 loss. Valdan Nimani scored the lone goal for the club in the loss, which sent them tumbling out of the competition. After being eliminated from European competition, the club strengthened its roster by adding players such as Elton Doku, Vangjel Mile, and Stipe Buljan in preparation for the upcoming season in the Kategoria Superiore. Their goal was to improve upon their fourth-place finish in the previous campaign.
The club won the Albanian Cup for the second time in 2015 by claiming victory against FK Kuksi by a score of 2–1 in the final of the Albanian Cup. As a result, they qualified for the 2015–16 UEFA Europa League.
KF Laçi Stadium
Laci Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Laci, Albania. The majority of its time is spent hosting football games, including those played at home by KF Laci, who compete in the Kategoria Superiore. The stadium can officially accommodate 8,000 spectators in seating at this time.
After a successful 2009–10 season, KF Laci made the decision to rehabilitate their stadium in order to fulfill the requirements set forth by UEFA for the club to be permitted to play their home Europa League games at their own stadium. To convert the stadium into an all-seater venue, the three stands that surround the field were refurbished, and approximately 2,300 blue plastic seats were put throughout the stadium. Because the stadium’s renovations were not finished in time for KF Laci’s debut in the European competition, the match against Dnepr Mogilev of Belarus had to be played at the Niko Dovana Stadium in Durrs instead. On August 30, 2010, a home league game against Shkumbini was held in the newly restored stadium, and it was opened in front of a crowd of 1,500 people. KF Laci won the game by a score of 2-0.
The field’s turf was changed out for the first time since 2006 during the summer of 2015, and the remainder of the stadium underwent some modest cosmetic renovations at the same time.
