Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield History
Vélez Sarsfield is widely regarded as one of the most successful football clubs in Argentina. The club achieved its first significant success in 1968, when it won the league title. Subsequently, the club qualified for the regular season every year from 1970 to 1990.
The previous two decades have been the most successful for the club, as evidenced by the fact that they have amassed a total of 15 trophies since 1993. Vélez have been crowned champions of the Primera División on their home turf ten times, while they have taken home five international cups at the continental level (including both the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup). It is one of just eight teams to have ever won all three titles offered by CONMEBOL.
The primary colors of Vélez Sarsfield’s uniform are white for the shirts and shorts, with blue used for certain accents. There have been multiple iterations of the club crest designed in an effort to rebrand the club and give it a more contemporary appearance. It is one of the clubs in Argentina that receives the most support from its fans.
Stadium
The José Amalfitani Stadium is a stadium that can be found in the area of Liniers in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is situated in close proximity to the Liniers railway station.
El Fortn de Liniers or simply Vélez Sarsfield are two of the names that are used to refer to the stadium that serves as the home field for the Vélez Sarsfield Argentine First Division team. José Amalfitani, who served as president of Vélez Sarsfield for a total of 30 years, inspired the naming of the stadium in his honor.
The first, more temporary stadium was constructed out of wood between the years 1941 and 1943, while the present-day building was constructed out of cement between the years 1947 and 1951.
After another 26 years, it underwent expansion and renovation in order to be ready for the 1978 FIFA World Cup. Although the stadium has a capacity of 49,540 spectators, unlike the majority of stadiums in Argentina, it does not provide seating for every single one of those fans.
