Academy
The Central Coast Mariners are proud to be accredited with ‘2 Star’ status under a new Football Federation Australia (FFA) system designed to provide more high-quality coaching to a larger number of potential talented players.
The Central Coast Mariners Academy became one of the first Hyundai A-League clubs to have their academy accredited with ‘2 Star’ status under a new Football Federation Australia (FFA) system designed to provide more high-quality coaching to a larger number of potential talented players.
The Mariners Academy represent the Central Coast from the under 8’s through to senior men and train locally on the Central Coast.
In addition to the male programs, the Central Coast Mariners Academy also have female programs from under 14’s to senior women.
The Central Coast Mariners Academy is made predominantly of homegrown talent with approximately 90% of all players originating from a junior club right here on the Central Coast.
FFA CEO David Gallop says 2 Star accreditation of a Hyundai A-League club academy is a landmark occasion for football in Australia.
“The development of top tier club academies is a major focus of the 20 year Whole of Football Plan,” said Gallop. “Over the past 10 years our player development path has been very narrow. The approach we have been working on for the past couple of years is to put our Hyundai A-League clubs and National Premier Leagues clubs at the heart of player development with support and guidance from the FFA and our Member Federations.
Skill Acquisition Program (SAP)
The Hit 101.3 Skill Acquisition Program (SAP) is for girls and boys aged 9-12 years old who are enthusiastic about their football and demonstrate an ability to develop their skills in a structured professional coaching environment.
SAP forms a vital part of the football development pathway on the Central Coast being the next step up from junior club football and zone leagues (Junior Reps). The Central Coast Mariners SAP teams play in the Football NSW Skill Acquisition competition. The Central Coast Mariners select 2 teams in each age group, and train 3 nights per week.

History
The Mariners are one of the eight original A-League teams and have been around since the league’s inception in 2004. It is the first time that a Gosford-based professional sports club has participated in a championship held at the national level.
The Central Coast Mariners have won one A-League Championship and two A-League Premierships despite the fact that they are considered to be one of the clubs in the league with the smallest market. They have appeared in four A-League Grand Finals and won the championship once. Additionally, the club has competed in the AFC Champions League five times in its history.
The club’s games are played at Central Coast Stadium, which has a capacity of 20,059 seats and is located in Gosford. The Mariners Centre of Excellence, the club’s purpose-built training facility, can be found in the neighborhood of Tuggerah. Additionally, a young squad that participates in the National Youth League calls this venue their home field.
The Yellow Army is the primary supporter group for the Mariners, and they get their name from the color of the team’s home uniform. The rivalry between this club and the Newcastle Jets is known as the F3 Derby, which is named after the previous name of the highway that runs between the two cities where the two teams are based.
As of January 2020, Matt Simon has scored 55 goals across all competitions with the Mariners, making him the team’s all-time leading striker. John Hutchinson, who has played for the Mariners in a total of 263 games, currently holds the record for most games played on a single team.
