History

Victory has won four A-League Championships, three A-League Premierships, one Pre-Season Challenge Cup, and one FFA Cup, making it the only club in the modern era of Australian soccer to have won all four domestic trophies. Victory is also recognized as the club with the most supporters and is currently the second most successful club in the league to date.

In addition, they have participated in the AFC Champions League on seven separate occasions, the most recent of which was in the year 2020. Their best performance in the competition came in the 2016 and 2020 seasons, when they advanced to the Round of 16 before being eliminated. This was their furthest ranking in the tournament.

The Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, which is currently known as AAMI Park due to sponsorship reasons, is the club’s home venue. It is a stadium with 30,050 seats and is located on Olympic Boulevard in the middle of Melbourne’s city center. In the past, home games for the Victory have been played at a variety of venues located in and around Melbourne, such as Olympic Park Stadium, Docklands Stadium, and Kardinia Park.

The primary headquarters of Victory can be found in the city proper, despite the fact that the organization enjoys support across the entirety of the Melbourne metropolitan area and in other communities around the state. The name “Northern Terrace” refers to the most prominent faction of Victory’s fanbase.

The club’s rivalries include the Melbourne Derby, which is played against Melbourne City; The Big Blue, which is played against Sydney; the Original Rivalry, which is played against Adelaide United; and the Westgate Derby or the Battle of the Bridge, which is played against Western United. Archie Thompson has a total of 97 goals to his name in all competitions, making him the all-time leading goal scorer for this club. With 405 appearances for the Victory, Leigh Broxham holds the record for the most matches played by a player for the club.
