Club Sportivo Cerrito, usually known simply as Cerrito, is an Uruguayan football club based in Cerrito de la Victoria, Montevideo. They currently play in the Uruguayan Primera División, the country’s highest level of professional club football.

Club Cerrito History

On October 28th, 1929, the club that has the colors yellow and green as its club colors was established. The year 1948 marks the beginning of the association’s first notable title, which was published in the Divisional supplement. Between the years 1951 and 1970, he won the Divisional Intermedia de Ftbol de Uruguay championship.

1982 and 1998 were the years when Cerrito were successful enough in the amateur Metropolitana de Ftbol league to win the championship. After that, in 2003, Cerrito won the championship of the Segunda División for the first time, which allowed them to go to the top level of the Uruguayan league. On the other hand, the association with La Liga only lasted until the end of the 2006–2007 season, when the club was demoted. Then, for the 2009–10 campaign, preparations were made to resume their position as one of the league’s top scorers.

The club concluded the first half of the following season, known as the Apertura, in the tenth position in the league, which was considered to be a respectable showing. They concluded the season in the 14th place, which meant that they were immediately relegated to the bottom of the standings.

Already in the season that followed, in which you also made Yoel Burgueo the top scorer of the league, you succeeded in occupying the second table square and making a direct resurgence. The second rise of the club was given the name “Ing Milton Gonnet” in honor of the person who had previously held the position of President of Plaza Colonia Copa. Already in the season that followed, they played in the second tier and appeared in Table 15 once again during their passage.

Club Cerrito Stadium

The Estadio Parque Maracaná is a football stadium in Casavalle, Montevideo, Uruguay. The capacity of the stadium is 8,000, and it serves as the home field for Club Sportivo Cerrito.

Club Cerrito Stadium

On September 20, 2008, the stadium opened with a match in the Segunda División between Cerrito and Huracán Buceo, which Cerrito won 3-0. The match was part of the opening ceremonies.
