Chula Vista FC was founded in 1982 by Jim Loughney, originally beginning as the Chula Vista Scorpions with roughly six to eight teams. The organization evolved through several identities before becoming Chula Vista FC and developing into one of the South Bay's major youth soccer organizations. In 2015 it became the first South Bay club awarded U.S. Soccer Development Academy membership, and in 2020 it became a founding member of MLS NEXT and the Elite Academy League. Its pathway now includes MLS NEXT, MLS NEXT Academy, Elite Academy, NPL, DPL and developmental programs beginning at age four.
