Rodrguez is a product of the Peñarol youth program and made his debut in the professional ranks on March 28, 2018, in a league match against Danubio. He entered the game in place of Giovanni González in the 59th minute of what turned out to be a 1–1 tie between the two teams. On May 24, 2018, he got his first goal for the team in a league game against Boston River which they won 3–0. Prior to his departure from the club in August 2019, he played in a total of 26 matches and scored three goals.
The Major League Soccer team Los Angeles FC made the announcement on the 7th of August, 2019, that they had signed Rodriguez as a young designated player for a club record cost of $11.5 million. Because of the value of the deal, he was also the third-highest purchase in the history of Major League Soccer at the time, behind the Argentine combo Pity Martinez and Ezequiel Barco of Atlanta United.
On 1 February 2021, Rodríguez went on loan to Segunda División side Almería in Spain. As part of the transaction, Almera was given the option to make the arrangement permanent when the loan period was through. On July 15, 2021, LAFC made the announcement that Rodriguez will be rejoining the Major League Soccer team.
Rodriguez made the move to América of Liga MX on August 24, 2022, for a transfer fee that was reportedly worth $6 million.
