Futbol Club Barcelona B is a Spanish football team based in Barcelona, in the autonomous community of Catalonia.

Founded in 1970 as FC Barcelona Atlètic, it is the reserve team of FC Barcelona, and currently plays in Segunda División B, holding its home matches at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Reserve teams in Spain play in the same league system as the senior team, rather than in a reserve team league. They must play at least one level below their main side, and thus Barcelona B are ineligible for promotion to La Liga. They also cannot play in the Copa del Rey.

FC Barcelona Juvenil (U19A)

Futbol Club Barcelona Juvenil are the under-19 team of Spanish professional football club Barcelona and the final stage of progression in the club’s youth academy commonly referred to as La Masia. The Juvenil A team play in the Group III of the División de Honor Juvenil de Fútbol where their main rivals are Espanyol, Damm and Mallorca.

They also participate in the national Copa de Campeones Juvenil and the Copa del Rey Juvenil, qualification for which is dependent on final league group position, and have taken part in the continental UEFA Youth League which they won in 2014 and 2018.

FC Barcelona RESIDENCY ACADEMY – Arizona, United States

BARÇA Residency Academy USA, opened in August 2017, is the first and to date only residential academy in the club’s international program. Located in the city of Casa Grande (Arizona), it came out of the agreement between FC Barcelona and Grande Sports World (GSA), and is a leading sporting and educational residential academy for young soccer players in the United States.

With this new project, the BARÇA Academy has been able to offer a new training opportunity to its players in an idyllically perfect setting for their comprehensive development. Named best training facility by the US Soccer Federation (USSF) for three years in a row, GSA provides players with on-site compulsory education, university preparation, nutritional control, dormitories, accompaniment, an athletics training complex and eight training fields.

BARÇA Residency Academy USA is run by 2 Local Project Directors (DPL) from the club, who are responsible for implementing the BARÇA methodology throughout all soccer processes, and ensuring that the BARÇA playing style and values are assimilated by all coaches, players and teams (eight from U15 to U19). These players are mainly from different US states, but some come from other BARÇA Academies, and they all had to pass certain entrance trials to get in.

Three teams play in the USSD, the highest youth level competition in the USA, which ensures alignment of competitive requirements with top quality training, offering our players more opportunities to achieve their goals of becoming professional players and/or getting scholarships for the best colleges in the USA. So far, all graduate players have obtained a university scholarship or signed a professional contract.

So the BARÇA Residency Academy is a great opportunity for players to continue training under the BARÇA methodology, with the clear objective of achieving soccer excellence.

FC Barcelona La Masia

The new Masia, opened on 20 October 2011, features a remarkably functional design, comfortable user facilities and the ability to expand in accordance with the Club’s needs.

It includes unbeatable installations that were exclusively designed to optimise the intellectual, personal, and social development of young sportspeople. All of that without ignoring human warmth and proximity among the residents, educators and club staff, and which has spawned such outstanding results.

The building has a surface area of almost 6,000 square metres on five floors, three of which are used by the academy and the other two of which are reserved for future uses. The construction work took 19 months, from December 2009 to July 2011.

The building cost 8.8 million euros, which added to the fees for licenses, architects and equipment amounted to around 11 million euros.

Until the new Masia was opened, the Club hosted 60 youth athletes in the previous Masia, divided between the old Masia de Can Planes (12 residents), and the equipped spaces at the North Goal of the Camp Nou (48 residents).The new Masia has the capacity for 83 sportspeople.

The bedrooms for two or four residents are distributed on the first and second floors, and can also be reserved for single use. In each room, each resident has their own bed, cupboard, bathroom and desk. Some of the rooms have special beds designed for tall athletes, as is often the case with basketball and handball players, and some have even been adapted for the physical rehabilitation of players.

Functionality and rationality are two basic concepts at the new Masia. One example of this is the ground floor, which has the kitchen, a self-service dining room, admininstration offices, classrooms and a leisure room. The conditions do not only have the residents in mind, but also the staff that look after them. Cooks, admin staff and site managers can all enjoy working in state-of-the-art facilities while never losing out on the family spirit in the centre.

FC Barcelona History

The club, which was established in 1899 by a group of football players from Catalonia, Switzerland, Spain, England, and Switzerland under the leadership of Joan Gamper, has earned the moniker “Més que un club” (more than a club) (“More than a club”). Barcelona is owned and run by its supporters, unlike many other football clubs. With a $4.06 billion market value, it is the fourth most valuable sports organization in the world. With an annual revenue of €840,8 million, it is also the richest football club in the world. The “Cant del Barça,” composed by Jaume Picas and Josep Maria Espinàs, serves as the national song of Barcelona. Barcelona is known as the Blaugrana because of its customary dark blue and red striped uniforms.

Barcelona holds the record for the last four competitions and has won a total of 74 domestic trophies, including 26 La Liga, 30 Copa del Rey, 13 Supercopa de Espaa, 3 Copa Eva Duarte, and 2 Copa de la Liga. The club has 20 European and international club football championships to its name, including five UEFA Champions League crowns, a record four UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups, a tie-breaking five UEFA Super Cups, a record three Inter-Cities Fairs Cups, and three FIFA Club World Cups. Barcelona is now rated second on the UEFA club rankings despite having held the top spot in the International Federation of Football History & Statistics Club World Ranking for 1997, 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2015. The club has a long-standing rivalry with Real Madrid, and matches between the two teams are referred to as El Clásico.

Barcelona has one of the highest social media followings among sports clubs worldwide and is one of the most widely supported teams in the world. Johan Cruyff is one of the players from Barcelona who has received a record amount of Ballon d’Or honors (12), and Ronaldo, Romário, Ronaldinho, and Rivaldo are some of the other winners of a record number of FIFA World Player of the Year awards (7). It was a first for players from the same football school when three players who went through the club’s youth academy—Lionel Messi, Andrés Iniesta, and Xavi—were selected as the FIFA Ballon d’Or winners in 2010.

Along with Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid, Barcelona is one of the three original members of the Primera División that have never been demoted from the top league since its foundation in 1929. Barcelona won the Spanish Super Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2009, making them the first Spanish football club to sweep all six competitions in a calendar year. They also became the first Spanish club to win the continental treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League. 2011 saw the club win five titles and repeat as European champions. Barcelona made history on June 6, 2015, when they won their fifth Champions League title, making them the first European football team to ever complete the continental treble twice. Barcelona, the highest-paid sports organization in the world, became the first sports organization with first-team average compensation above £10m ($13.8m) annually in November 2018.

Stadium

At first, Barcelona played at the Camp de la Industria. The club’s officials felt the facilities inadequate for a club with a growing membership despite the approximately 6,000 capacity.

With more than 20,000 fans in attendance by 1922, Barça was able to finance the construction of the larger Camp de Les Corts, which had a 20,000-seat capacity at first. Following the Spanish Civil War, the club began to draw more new members and spectators to games. This prompted the grandstand in 1944, the southern stand in 1946, and eventually the northern stand in 1950 as extension projects. 60,000 spectators could fit in Les Corts after the most recent enlargement.

There was no more room for expansion at Les Corts after the work was finished. Larger audiences attended the games thanks to back-to-back La Liga championships in 1948 and 1949 and the arrival of László Kubala in June 1950, who would go on to score 196 goals in 256 games. The team started developing plans for a new stadium. The construction of Camp Nou began on March 28, 1954, in front of 60,000 Barça supporters. Under the supervision of Governor Felipe Acedo Colunga and with the approval of Archbishop of Barcelona Gregorio Modrego, the foundation stone for the future stadium was set. Three years and 288 million pesetas later, on September 24, 1957, construction was finally completed, coming in 336 percent over budget.

When the stadium needed to be renovated in 1980 to satisfy UEFA requirements, the team collected money by allowing supporters to have their names inscribed on the bricks for a modest cost. Thousands of individuals paid the charge because thousands of people supported the idea. Later, when news outlets in Madrid picked up on claims that one of the stones had Santiago Bernabéu’s name engraved on it—a longtime Real Madrid chairman and Franco supporter—this became the center of debate. Two tiers of seating were added above the old roofline in time for the 1992 Summer Olympics. It is now the largest stadium in Europe with a capacity of 99,354.

Crest

The club’s initial crest was a quartered diamond-shaped design with the Crown of Aragon and the King James bat above it with two palm and laurel tree branches encircling it. As a sign of affiliation with the city and a wish to be taken seriously as one, the club adopted Barcelona’s coat of arms.

The club held a contest for its members to create a new crest in 1910. Carles Comamala, a club player at the time, was the victor. The club adopted Comamala’s idea as its current crest, with a few minor modifications. The Catalan flag is placed next to the St. George Cross in the upper-left corner of the crest, which also features the team colors at the bottom.

Ownership

Barcelona is a registered association that is organized, together with Real Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, and Osasuna. In contrast to a limited business, membership in the club can only be acquired, not shares. The assembly of delegates made up of Barcelona’s members, or “socis,” serves as the club’s highest governing body. As of 2016, the club has 140,000 socis.

Based on data from the 2008–09 season, Forbes estimated Barcelona’s value to be around €752 million (US$1 billion), placing them fourth overall behind Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Arsenal. Barcelona came in second to Real Madrid, which made €401 million in income, according to Deloitte, with a recorded revenue of €366 million during the same time period. With a worth of $2.6 billion, Forbes magazine ranked Barcelona as the third most valuable sports team in the world in 2013, behind Real Madrid and Manchester United. With a value of $3.2 billion, Forbes listed them as the second most valuable sports team in the world in 2014. With an annual income of €484.6 million, Deloitte ranked them as the fourth richest football club in the world. With a team value of $3.64 billion, Forbes listed them as the fourth most valuable sports team in the world in 2017.
