Columbus Crew 2 is a professional soccer team based in Columbus, Ohio that competes in the MLS Next Pro league, the third division of American soccer. The team is owned by and operates as the reserve team of the Major League Soccer club Columbus Crew.
Columbus Crew 2 Youth Development System
Announced on December 6, 2021, Columbus Crew 2 is Columbus Crew’s Second Team, slated to play in MLS NEXT Pro starting with the 2022 inaugural season. A developmental team promoting community involvement, Crew 2 completes the Black & Gold player pathway, which begins with Crew Academy and ends with the Crew’s First Team.
Crew 2 is set to play its home matches at Historic Crew Stadium, the first soccer-specific stadium in the United States, which served as the home of the Crew’s First Team from 1999-to 2021. Crew 2 is set to train at the OhioHealth Performance Center, which serves as the training center for the Crew, Crew 2, and Crew Academy.

Columbus Crew 2 History
The Columbus Crew made the announcement on December 6, 2021 that they will be forming a reserve team in MLS Next Pro that would begin play in the 2022 season and that they would play at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. This news was shared on December 6 of the same year.
At the same time, the team made the announcement that Corey Wrey, who is currently serving as the Crew’s Assistant General Manager and will continue to do so in his new role, will be the club’s first manager. The newly established league will have a total of 21 teams competing in it, and The Crew 2 will be one of them. The Crew made the announcement on January 28, 2022, that Laurent Courtois will be the team’s first head coach.
On March 26, 2022, the club participated in its debut game, which was played at DRV PNK Stadium and resulted in a loss by a score of 0–2 to Inter Miami CF II. The following week, the team defeated Chicago Fire FC II with a score of one goal for and zero goals against.

Historic Crew Stadium is a stadium in Columbus, Ohio, United States that is specifically designed for the sport of soccer. It was formerly known as Columbus Crew Stadium and Mapfre Stadium. It was the primary stadium that the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer used from 1999 until 2021, when the team moved to Lower.com Field.
It was the home stadium for the Columbus Crew. The OhioHealth Performance Center and MLS Next Pro team Columbus Crew 2 call the Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio their home. The OhioHealth Performance Center is located inside the Historic Crew Stadium. Due to the permanent stage that is located in the north end zone of Historic Crew Stadium, it is frequently used as a venue for outdoor concerts and plays host to a wide range of additional sporting events, including those involving amateur and professional soccer, American football, lacrosse, and rugby.
It was the first soccer-specific stadium built by a Major League Soccer team, and it was constructed in 1999. This marked the beginning of an important trend in the construction of MLS stadiums. Following the announcement of a five-year sponsorship deal on March 3, 2015, the stadium was given its current name in honor of Mapfre Insurance, which has its headquarters in Madrid.
When the contract was up in December of 2020, the Crew changed the name of the stadium. The official capacity is listed as 19,968 seats. The Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) presented Mapfre Stadium and its Director of Grounds Weston Appelfeller with the prestigious Field of the Year award in 2015 for the professional soccer division of the competition. Mapfre Stadium is located in San Jose, Costa Rica.
