Chicago House AC History
The National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) made the announcement on September 10, 2020 that an investor group lead by league founder Peter Wilt has applied for a team to play in the Chicago market. Wilt was the driving force behind the application. Wilt had previously attempted to start a new Chicago team in 2016 with the North American Soccer League (NASL), and more recently in 2018, following his departure from NISA, he successfully started the Madison, Wisconsin-based Forward Madison FC in USL League One.
Both of these endeavors took place after Wilt had previously worked for NISA. Bruce Merivale-Austin was another investor that participated. The NISA made the official announcement that the squad had been accepted on November 5th, with the intention of beginning play in the fall of 2021. In the months that followed, the team sent out a request to the fans, asking them to suggest names for the team that had some connection to the history and culture of Chicago. The team narrowed the field down to 68 potential winners and then conducted a poll with the help of the audience, which they termed “Moniker Madness,” to choose the winner.
The name “Chicago House,” which had been chosen by the majority of voters, was presented to the public for the first time on February 23, 2021, along with the team’s crest and colors. The team announced on January 27, 2021 that it would play all of its home games at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, which is located in the state of Illinois.
It was reported on February 2 that C. J. Brown, a former player for Chicago Fire FC who holds the record for most career appearances, will serve as the team’s first technical director and head coach. The club made the announcement on May 1, 2021, that Lindsey Morgan Sacks will succeed Bruce Merivale-Austin as the major owner of the squad, so seizing control of the organization from Merivale-Austin.
The team’s first official match in club history took place on July 9, 2021, and they competed in the 2021 NISA Independent Cup, where they were defeated by the amateur side FC Milwaukee Torrent by a score of 2-0. Two weeks later, the House finished their run in the Independent Cup with a win by defeating Union Dubuque FC with a score of 5–0 to earn their first victory in the club’s whole history. The club’s first season saw it produce a record of 7-2-9, which was good for a sixth-place finish.
Wojciech Wojcik was the leading scorer for the team, tallying a total of eight goals. During the offseason, the club’s reputation suffered with NISA as a result of a dispute that occurred between NISA commissioner John Prutch and Laurence Girard, who is the husband of Lindsey-Morgan Sacks, the club’s owner. As a consequence of this, CHAC was voted out of the league and will not participate in the 2022 U.S. Open Cup.
New Amsterdam FC, which is controlled by Girard, will also be eliminated. It was revealed on the club’s social media accounts in March 2022 that they would begin play in the following season as members of the Midwest Premier League. Additionally, CEO Wilt has stated that he plans to return to NISA in 2023. The original schedule for the Midwest Premier League was released by The House via social media, and it was also revealed that the club will play all of its home games at Stuart Field, which is located on the campus of Illinois Institute of Technology.
Chicago House AC Stadium
The Stuart Field is a multisport field that was constructed in 2013 and is located in Chicago, Illinois. The complex currently has a fairly contemporary synthetic turf playing surface that is 115 yards long and 75 yards wide.
The multipurpose field, which has a view of the cityscape of Chicago, is put to use mostly for the sports of soccer (both men’s and women’s) and lacrosse (women’s) in the fall and spring, respectively. The playing field features both lighting and a sound system that is installed permanently.
