Atlanta United 2 is the reserve team of the Major League Soccer club Atlanta United FC. The team plays in the USL Championship, the second tier of American soccer. The team was established on November 14, 2017, and began its first professional season in March 2018.

“ATL UTD 2 is the fundamental link in our club’s vertical integration, connecting our Academy teams to our First Team,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “This team gives us a chance to challenge academy players at the professional level while also giving our First Team players an opportunity to stay match fit and when returning from injury. This team will be a blend of local talent and seasoned pros.”

History
MLS’s Atlanta United announced in November 2017 that it has acquired a USL affiliate team and would begin play in the 2018 season, according to the USL, a Division II league sanctioned by the US Soccer Federation (USSF). Atlanta United 2 was officially unveiled as the team’s name on January 9th, 2018.

According to the league’s announcement, the team will be one of eight that will join MLS Next Pro in 2023.
Stadium
During their first season, the squad played at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, Georgia, which can hold a maximum of 7,362. The Atlanta Braves’ Triple-A affiliate, the Gwinnett Stripers, play their home games at Coolray Field. The stadium has been converted from a baseball diamond to a soccer surface in order to accommodate semi-professional soccer.

The pitch will remain 70 by 110 yards (64 m x 101 m) in length, and the premium boxes and other stadium areas will be available for soccer games. On December 14, 2018, Atlanta United 2 announced that their 2019 home games would be held at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia.
