BACK TO USA CLUBS

Hi, I’m Carlos! A coach, sports enthusiast, and the founder of FCScout.com.

I fell in love with the game at a very young age like many of you. I’ve been following and playing soccer for many years.

Throughout my career, I always enjoyed helping soccer players chase their dreams, which is why I started this website. I wanted to reach a larger audience outside of my local area and fcscout.com was born.

This website is a platform I will be using to update club pages on any tryouts, stadiums, players, tech, and more from clubs around the world. I also create free recruitment profiles for players looking to have that extra competitive edge when reaching out to clubs.

That’s it. That’s my pitch for you to stick around (or browse the site as you please).

This is already too much text for a “see more” drop-down button thing. If you want to reach out to me, head on over to my contact page 🙂

South Georgia Tormenta FC is a professional soccer team based in Statesboro, Georgia. The club competes in the USL League One, the third division of American soccer.

Tormenta FC Youth Development System

The mission of Tormenta FC Academy is to develop youth through the sport of soccer by providing exceptional leadership, a commitment to best practices, and a belief that fun is the reason that kids want to play and why they keep playing. We seek to be a catalyst in the communities we live in.

At Tormenta FC, we decided to create a youth soccer club that would restore and strengthen trust among players, parents, coaches, families, and communities to create an environment and culture in which all soccer-playing participants could thrive. Reimagining the modern youth soccer club as a place for developing our children into young adults of character has inspired us to create a safe and inviting place for all children to play — regardless of current athletic potential or mindset.

As the only youth soccer club featuring a direct path to a professional team in South Georgia and the Low Country, we will feature various playing levels and programs specifically designed to improve players season to season and year to year based on individual player commitment and dedication levels. Whether the intent of a player is to have fun and play more soccer, make their middle or high school team, participate in the leading youth soccer leagues and tournaments in the country, play collegiate soccer, compete at the professional level, or even to make the United States national team — we have a program and a path to help achieve those dreams.

Our vision for success is to create an environment and culture in which all members thrive. Tormenta FC Academy participants develop a love for the game that will take them into adulthood, experience soccer at the highest level possible given their athletic potential, and learn important and valuable life skills and lessons that the sport is uniquely positioned to teach.

Tormenta FC History

Since the Statesboro Pilots of the Georgia State League dissolved in 1955, it has been sixty years since Statesboro has had a professional club in any sport. South Georgia Tormenta FC was established in 2015, making it Statesboro’s first pro team in any sport since then. Darin and Netra Van Tassell are the ones in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Tormenta FC franchise, which is owned by Tormenta FC LLC.

The Spanish term “tormenta” literally translates to “storm.” Tormenta FC played its first ever home match on May 21, 2016, against the Carolina Dynamo in front of a total attendance of 3,105 spectators. On June 16, 2016, Tormenta FC defeated the Charlotte Eagles by a score of 2-0 to earn their first victory in club history.

The match was played against the Charlotte Eagles. After achieving that victory, the team went on to achieve a second victory in a row on June 18, 2016, when it defeated the Carolina Dynamo by a score of 1-0. Tormenta FC not only scored their first ever goal at home on June 23, 2016, but the squad also managed to win their first home match by defeating Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors 1-0. The match was Tormenta FC’s first ever at home.

On July 2, 2016, Tormenta’s winning streak of five games was ended when they were defeated by the King’s Warriors by a score of 2–1. South Georgia Tormenta FC was given the honor of becoming the first founding member of USL League One for the 2019 season on January 25, 2018. In 2018, the squad finished the regular season with a perfect record, which ensured that they would win the Deep South Division championship. Statesboro, Georgia served as the location for Tormenta FC’s playoff games for the conference.

On March 29, 2019, Tormenta FC played host to the first game of USL League One. They defeated the Greenville Triumph by a score of 1-0 and established a new attendance record with 3,519 people in attendance. After getting out to a strong start that had them in second position, the team struggled in the second half of the season, winning only two of their final sixteen matches. This dropped them to sixth place and eliminated them from contention for a playoff slot. Tormenta made the announcement that John Miglarese had been promoted to the position of Technical Director on September 16, 2020.

Additionally, Ian Cameron, who had previously served as an assistant coach and head coach of Tormenta 2, was promoted to the position of head coach of the first squad. Tormenta made the announcement that they will be fielding a women’s side to compete in the newly formed USL W League on June 8, 2021. The league will begin play in 2022.

Tournament play for the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Men’s Soccer Championship was held at the stadium. Additionally, the stadium has played host three times for the outdoor track and field championships that were held by the Southern Conference, the most recent of which was in 2013. Eagle Field is the venue for Tormenta FC’s games in USL League One. The team intends to relocate to a soccer-specific stadium in Statesboro with 5,300 seating capacity in 2021, and building on the stadium is already underway.
